Promoting Your Event: Radio

microphone-1241848-639x421.jpgPurchasing airtime on a local or regional radio station isn’t the only option for radio advertising.  In addition to paid spots, it never hurts to ask if a station would be willing to media sponsor an event (trade the value of banner placement, logo/ad in the event’s printed materials, tickets for airtime on the station).  If an event includes a benefit, consider asking for PSA spots or ask for nonprofit pricing if the event qualifies.  Check out the radio station’s website and utilize any free online event calendars to list an event, such as this one on WNCW-FM.  Also, pitch a news story idea to the news department of the station in case they would be willing to feature the upcoming event through a news feature or interview.
